Chasing Gravity Their ambition actually matches their talent, and their self-financed, indepen- dently released debut album Autumn In The Platinum Desert reflects that perfectly. It's the sound of a band finally comfortable with the music they're creating, and now, with two new members, they're finally content in their own skin, content in making Chasing Gravity more than the sum of its parts. Having began life as Elephant Mojo in Brisbane in 2003, the band discarded that limiting persona and reinvented themselves both philosophically and musically, moving to Melbourne and re-emerging as Chasing Gravity. They gave up their jobs, their bind- ing ties and their lives and it was a move that quickly paid dividends. They created a studio in their new house and simply rehearsed and wrote the songs that would end up forming their debut album Autumn In The Platinum Desert. Financing the record was done the old fashioned way - show af- ter show after show was played in a seem- ingly never ending tour. But the work was worth it, as Autumn In The Platinum Desert is the professional opening salvo from an immensely professional band. Melodic rock is rarely done in such a way that it captures the essence of what rock 'n' roll sets out to personify. Chasing Gravity are powerful, transformational and always engaging in their subject. This is because their subject matter hinges on the essence of what makes us human: our interactions, our relationships, our way of interpreting the actions and words of others. There's a grav- ity (pun intended) to the way they approach relating music to life, and it's more than clear with the sheer empowerment behind the charging Bright Lights, torch-bearing title-track and grinding power-rock of Latest Enemy. Chasing Gravity are powerful, anthemic, hook-driven guitar-rock, of a gene pool that would leave many a wannabe-rockstar shaking in their boots at their sheer emotive resonance... but Chasing Gravity will do more than that. Chasing Gravity aren't here simply to rock your foundations; they're here to move you. With a new line up, a killer record and only more scintillating rock to come, move you they will.
