Shaney Hutchinson

Shaney lives with her mother, father and two sisters in Hornsey. Shaney's teenage brother Rhian was killed a year ago in a knife attack. Shaney has been immersing herself in work, training and auditioning for the past year, as a way of blocking out the pain of losing her brother. One afternoon whilst on a lunch break with her friends she see Nadia, who is the sister of the boy who killed her brother. From this point on, she is forced to finally confront her pain. Nadia becomes the target of her anger and hate, and Nadia allows this because she is riddled with guilt. They form an unusual relationship, which is in many ways unhealthy, however, as emotions run out of control they both start to become confused about what they are to each other and what the relationships is. Are they falling in love?

Monologue

Hi. My name is Shaney Hutchinson. I’m 22 years old, and I live in Hornsey with my mum, my dad and my two sisters. I work part time at the Union Cinema in Wood Green and I’m also training to be an actress.

My life has changed a lot over the past year. It’s made me realise that you’ve gotta to do what makes you happy…cause life is too short. There are so many things that I want to do…and…and I don’t wanna make excuses anymore. I don’t want to float from one day to the next with no real purpose. I don’t want life to pass me by. I’m doing some acting classes in the evenings and on my days off work, and soon I’m going to start auditioning for some parts. I’m nervous…I’m not gonna lie…but it’s what I wanna do. I need to put all my energy into something, something that makes me happy, something that makes me feel good about myself.

When you loose someone you love…someone close to you, you lose a part of yourself…and it’s hard…it’s so hard. But you have to fight. You have to fight ,and you have to keep going, and then maybe….I don’t know...

Maybe one day you can start to feel whole again.
