Sharfla Sharfla are a synth pop electronic band based in Edinburgh. The band formed in 2006 around a loose idea to makes tunes, despite both members being from very different musical backgrounds. Paul has played as a jazz/pop drummer throughout the UK and overseas, and Roncey sang in an indie pop band back in her hometown of Sydney, Australia. Now they have crafted a sound which is Kylie sprinkled with Bjork vocals, mixed with Calvin Harris synth riffs with a touch of trip hop. Beginning as a project for their own creative outlet, inspired by Portishead and Massive Attack early songs were more downtempo, sparse and chilled. After Sharfla played a few local festivals they decided they wanted to make music people could dance to as well, and began to refine their sound. Neither Roncey nor Paul had a background in writing so they started on a crash course of learning to make those dancing sounds. Excited by the music artists like Groove Armada, Moloko, and Faithless were making they started to explore their own variations on the dance music and pop that they loved to listen to. Sharfla are now currently writing and recording their debut album, which will be available late 2010. The first digital release off the album called “We’re Free” was just released on 8th July and is now available on Itunes, Amazon, Spotify and most major music sites. www.sharfla.com
