Spirit of Play
('Difference Engine' featured in David's Introduction Episode')

Spirit of Play Spirit of Play "A band at the cutting edge of geek-rock", as a media don has put it, Spirit of Play made their London debut in 2008 and became a five-piece band in 2009. In 2010, their gigs have included the Lambeth Country Show and the Green Man Festival.

They now know which round to hold their instruments, sometimes. Their constituent parts include a poet and two cyclists. Their songs aspire to be recognized for the joys that live inside them; like snowflakes, no two SOP songs are the same. One is about quantum physics, another is about Darwinian realpolitik. A third one seems to be about tea.

An unbiased witness said that they make "upbeat folky-pop featuring clever lyrics and intricate vocal harmonies . . . . though [their songs] make me laugh, many also contain an agreeable undercurrent of minor-key sweetness" (Jennifer Rohn). This is more or less the sum of what is known about them. As their own blog puts its: "They make pop so you don't have to".
